Worth every penny. As an older reader I am probably past the intended demographic of this book, that made no difference. The narrative is sophisticated and fair to the three men it profiles. Yes, Edison was often a rat, pirating from both Bell and Tesla, on the other hand, after Tesla lost everything in a lab fire, Edison provided him with free lab space to recover both scientifically and psychically. Part inspirational biography of three geniuses, it is also a cautionary tale. workaholic Edison, barely knew his family, even more intently focused Tesla had no family, and Bell constantly strove for a balance between inventing and his personal life. I thought I knew the stories of these men but this book provided information that I did not know previously. The illustrations are wonderful and the writing, brisk and informative without bogging down in scientific or technical jargon. Perfect for readers of ANY age.

I bought this as a gift for my 3rd grader based upon the good reviews. Like one of the other reviewers mentioned, the subject isn't something she would normally be interested in, but my daughter didn't want to put it down and ended up finishing the book in her free time over a couple days. It's illustrated like a comic book and I think that helped peak her interest. Based upon how well this was received, I've went looking for other illustrated novels by the same author.

This is fairytale-ish in a way. I enjoyed the story with the sisters Georgina and Mary, I feel like the world building could maybe have been more fleshed out and explained. The magic was quaint until the end. I will say I wasnâ€™t surprised by anything, I knew where it was heading before it got there and Iâ€™ll give you a trigger warning for sexual assault. I donâ€™t know, it was good but mostly just average.

You know how when you finish a book you loved and you close it and then just want to hug it and cry? No, just me? Well that is me right now, and that has been me with every book Katrina has written! I loved it. I loved it SO MUCH.

I found this book today and instantly fell in love with it. The characters are so mesmerising and I just couldn't put it down. Keep up the good work!

I loved the quirky and unique setting of By-the-Sea. It really felt alive. And I loved the unique and specific powers that the Fernweh women possessed and the matter-of-fact nature of their magic. And the legacy of Annabella the bird.So Georginaâ€™s romance with Prue, whoâ€™s tagging along with her brother for bird watching, is all kinds of adorable. The are just so pure and cute and make me really smiley.Summer of Salt is just filled with so much family and sisters and love and support and I couldnâ€™t get enough. The Fernweh women were a great, eclectic group that truly love and support each other beyond anything else.You always know youâ€™ll get fantastic quotes with magical realism books:â€œOn By-the-Sea, you and me will go sailing by. On waves of green, softly singing too. On By-the-Sea, you and me will be forever young. And live together on waves of blue.â€â€œThe dead loved promises; the living loved promising.â€Things I Didnâ€™t LikeI loved that is was such an easy book to read, but it went by so quickly! I donâ€™t know if the atmospheric nature of the story kept me from really getting hooked in, but I never felt fully invested. Donâ€™t get me wrong, I really enjoyed it but I wasnâ€™t in it.This was the perfect rainy day summer book. I absolutely flew threw the pages, but I donâ€™t think Iâ€™ll be forgetting the story anytime soon. Summer of Salt is an impactful story of magic and healing.

You know when you start a book one day, and you get at least 10% into it and then you put it down for a day or two and you say you'll take your time with it and not binge read but then you pick it up again and then you find yourself Commited? Yeah that's what happened again. I truthfully didn't mean to stay up reading this late and finishing this book, but Summer of Salt was nothing like I was expecting and yet it was better than I expected it to be in places that I wasn't sure how to make sense of.I didn't know that this was going to be a wlw book, because I thought the girls on the cover were the sisters and so I was ecstatic to find out that Georgina was a lesbian and Prue was bi, because no one is really talking about this book and I think that they need to be because while it doesn't focus much on their romantic relationship they were still important and very sweet to see together. I loved their dynamic and everything they did truthfully.The magic in this world was the sort of magic that I sort of aspire for? The sort of casualty that you know something is going on, but you either don't want to ask or you know better than to ask what's going on because that's just how all of this works and that's that. I had to say, I called Georgie's Thing way early and I sat through the whole book waiting for the ball to drop in the most dramatic way and I got that.My only concern is that I can't easily reccomend this to anyone, because while I feel like it does handle what happened to Mary very well and I'm So Glad that her side won in the end it should have more of a sexual assault warning for some people who have stronger sensitivities. I have a deep respect for Leno for also acknowledging the number of men who are assaulted, that was more than a lot of people like to do and I feel that this book deserves so much more love and attention.I borrowed this from my public library, but if given the chance I am 1000% buying this for my book collection at home.

But The Book Study Concordance of the Greek New Testament is far from just another concordance.First and foremost, The Book Study Concordance is based on the 27th edition of the Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece, rather than a translation of the New Testament. This gives the reader an open glimpse into the underlying text behind most modern translations and provides a unique opportunity for examining how each New Testament book uses various Greek terms. Which leads to the second standout feature of The Book Study Concordance: canonical organization rather than alphabetical. The Book Study Concordance seeks to provide individual analysis of each New Testament book, and thus follows the canonical order (i.e. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, etc.). Moreover, within this canonical examination and analysis, The Book Study Concordance is uniquely formatted to aid the exegetical task of the reader. Each entry provides the reader with key statistical data about the book (total word count, number of words occurring at least 10 times, number of words occurring once, and words whose occurrences in the New Testament book account for at least 25% of occurrences in the entire New Testament), followed by a traditional-style book specific concordance of the Greek text, and two frequency lists (alphabetical and occurrence order).Personally, I have found this book helpful not only for the various tasks associated with exegesis and interpretation of the New Testament, but also with translation and obtaining a brief grammatical glance of any given author on a macro scale. Currently I am working through a personal translation project for Paul's letter to the Philippians and The Book Study Concordance has on numerous occasions been my go-to resource for gathering a birdâ€™s eye view of how Paul uses specific terms throughout the letter. This has been beneficial in a number of ways and has allowed me to be more consistent in my understanding of Paul's letter and allowed me to work through the each specific passage with a better understanding of Paul through broader lenses.The Book Study Concordance of the Greek New Testament is much more than another concordance. The benefit of this mammoth book is indispensable for the student of the New Testament and invaluable to the task of New Testament exegesis. My only regret is not having this resource in my library sooner.

Just got my Book Study Concordance, definitely seems worth its weight if you know what I mean. Seems useful for book study, keywords/themes, and book by book Greek vocab. lists.I was a little disappointed that there is not a similar book study concordance for the Old Testament.Also, being a math nerd I noticed that percentages were truncated and not rounded; i.e., 2/3 = 66% instead of 67& (they didn't round). I thought this was a little weird, but oh well. Maybe they will change that in subsequent editions.

This is more of a correction to the previous reviewer's score of only one star based on the on the fact that this book gives no verb parsing or other grammatical help.Does he not realise that this is a Concordance?It is not an Analytical Lexicon, which it seems he mistakes it for.Therefore it is not meant to give grammatical information of the kind he would like. The book itself is of very good quality in terms of its physical materials.Sewn binding, very clear quality print and well set out.A book by by book study of terms used can be of a great help to any exegete who wishes to study the vocabulary of a given writer for example.The NT writers often used the same term in a different way in the same letter or Gospel.This concordance gives enough line context to enable one to see how that term is used in any given NT writing.Kostenberger and Bouchoc have provided the NT student with a very helpful tool. Whilst it does not render the use of a standard Concordance superflous, it certainly gives an added usefulness and angle to concordance work.

If you have interest in the Greek New Testament the Book Study Concordance is a must have in your library. Breaking down Greek words BY BOOK is an excellent way to analyze the text and the word frequency lists for each book allow you to see keywords more easily. There were a few decent points but mostly this book contained information that I already found online. If you aren't the researching type (which would be surprising if you just finished your dissertation), then this book gives you the basics in one, easy to read, place. If you've already done research on how to turn your dissertation into a book and are looking for a deeper level of info, this is not it.

Very good information, not just on getting a book published, but getting it published by the right people. It shares that what was academic must now be revised in a way to address a specific audience.

This book gives some good overview advice of how to turn a dissertation into a book. However, I was looking for the nitty-gritty practical advice - which I did not find here. There are lots of big ideas about how books are very different projects than dissertations, and high-level ideas about when a book project is worth saving and when it's worth moving onto something new. All good information - just not the low-level, practical information I was looking for.

Honest advice on how to rethink one's dissertation for the audience who would buy a book on it.

The information in this book is very basic and helpful for recent graduates looking to find a path to share their work and research with a broader audience.

This was well-written. I bought it as part of a bundle. While this was one of three books I read on the topic, I'm glad I took the time to look it over.

Clear and very helpful. A great resource that I have gone back to several times already.

I liked Meet Cute, but I didn't love it. It expanded my definition of a meet cute, in that not all of these stories were actually cute. In some of the stories, there seemed to be a lot of unnecessary manufactured drama - as if one problem for the protagonist to solve wasn't enough. But instead of spending more time on the stories I didn't really care for, here are some of my favorite stories in the collection: Click, The Intern, The Way We Love Here, Oomph, Say Everything, and The Department of Dead Love. I wish they had all been like these stories - I was expecting a lot more feel-good moments than I feel like I actually got. This was cute, but I'm glad I didn't get it in hardback. A more detailed review of the individual stories is below:Siege Ettiquette - a solemn beginning. I guess I assumed all meet cutes were feel-good. This one had a lot of emotion, but the main female is a mean girl and there are several stereotypes thrown around. I guess that's not too far- fetched, since it is high school, but i found it hard to relate or root for the characters.Print Shop - a slightly more upbeat story. I liked all of the detail about the print shop, but i didn't feel like we got to know the main character (whose head we're in) very well. so caring about her feelings felt a bit odd. But again, i will say the writing was really good!Hourglass - also not a feel good story. There's some depth, but I guess I don't understand why there had to be drama between the two friends, why everything else in Cherish's life, all the upcoming change and questions couldnt be enough.Click - i LOVED this story! Set in the nearish future, two people meet for a blind date with a twist. It was lovely and sweet and fun to read!The Intern - This story? This story is so good! Sweet and stormy and fun and fierce. Full of loving and sadness and laughter and heart. This is what i wanted the entire collection to be!Somewhere That's Green - I'm afraid to say anything negative about this story, because i do like the diversity, and i think it will probably give a lot of people hope. But it all felt... forced? cliche? i hate that, word. I think if it had ended just after the hug, I'd be more on board with it.The Way We Love Here - This story is MAGIC. It's sweet and lovely and sad and extraordinary. I love the idea of soulmate tattoos, but also the idea of potentially thwarting them. This is the best of the bunch!OOmph - i adored this story. The uncertainty and authenticity. The nerdy jokes and nervousness. i want more stories like this!The Dictionary of You and Me - I liked this story and found it a quick and delightful read. I'm kept from loving it simply because the main character kept pointing out how what was happening would only ever happen in a movie. That broke my distended disbelief each time.The Unlikely Likelihood of Falling in Love - This was cute. i enjoyed the format and most of the story. I liked the characters, too. I think I just, didn't like the handful of references to meet cutes within this meet cute.259 Million Miles - i didn't like this story. it was strange being in a guy's head and Blythe felt VERY manic pixie dreamgirl.Something Real - i liked this story, but i think i would have liked it more if the guy wasn't a complete jerk. The two main females were wonderful and it was fantastic that they wouldn't fight over the guy!Say Everything - I LOVE this one! sweet and a little melancholy and the awkwardness abounds. But so do the truths and the good advice. YOLO and all that, you know?The Department of Dead Love - What a wonderful story to end on! I love the idea of an organization devoted to understanding and researching love. A great note to end on!

I think with this type of short story collection, where each one is by a different author, it's not unexpected that I would enjoy each one a different amount. There were some I really enjoyed and some that were just okay. I didn't dislike any of them though and overall it was an enjoyable read. I had thought these were all contemporary in nature but I was pleasantly surprised to find that some were science fiction.I also loved that there weren't just boy meets girl stories (there were girl meets girl, transgender girl meets girl, etc.). Plus, they weren't all white people.This is probably nitpicky but there was some geography issues in the first story: "Siege Etiquette" and it bothered me, mostly because it involved the area I'm from (Syracuse, NY is in Onondaga County).

This is a super fun anthology that totally lives up to the cuteness promised in the title!My top three stories that I absolutely cannot get out of my head no matter how hard I try:1. THE WAY WE LOVE HERE by Dhonielle Clayton - Gorgeously written, evocative, and felt like an entire love story in twenty-five pages?! I know, but how? This was my first taste of Clayton's writing, and it made me even more excited to run and preorder THE BELLES.2. OOMPH by Emery Lord - So. Freaking. Cute. Two girls meet at an airport and I am trash for this trope OKAY.3. CLICK by Katherine McGee - A near future that explores dating apps vs. IRL connections....Really I meant to do a top three but I could keep going on and on. PAINT SHOP by Nina LaCourhas such a unique setting and hopeful ending and is delightfully f/f. THE UNLIKELY LIKELIHOOD OF FALLING IN LOVE made me swoon (the blue sweatshirt!). And THE DEPARTMENT OF DEAD LOVE was just such a unique premise my goodness!This is the first anthology series I've read; and I'm certainly on the bandwagon now!

So I didnâ€™t know what to expect. I saw that Jennifer L. Armentrout was a writer on this book and she is one of my favorite authors, so I decided, why not?I did enjoy some of the stories in this book, though it took me a while to finish reading, and that is usually not a good sign. The writing was great. Each writer shines individually and seeing their different styles is intriguing. This book ranges from the young adult to new adult genre. I liked a lot of little things about Meet Cute. I love that there is a story for everyone. Every race, gender, and sexual orientation has a story in this book and it is part of what makes it fantastic. I loved the different genres depicted as well. Whether it be young adult, new adult, dystopian, or fantasy, this book has it all. The variety is amazing and I believe that everyone will find a story in it thatâ€™s just for them.Even though I enjoyed those aspects, I couldnâ€™t bring myself to wanting to read this book. I found that I needed a break from reading it just to read something else. itâ€™s not that it was bad, I just couldnâ€™t get into some of the stories. And the stories that I really did like, I wanted more of. Once the two main characters meet each other and interact for a page or two, thatâ€™s it. The story is over. And I hate the feeling of wanting more from a book. This doesnâ€™t make the book bad at all. But it makes the reader wish that there was justâ€¦.more.Would I recommend this book? Sure, why not. Like I said, thereâ€™s a story for everyone. Meet cute was not a bad book at all, I was just left with the feeling of reading something unfinished.

It was good, but I'm kinda disappointed to be honest. The first two books were so revolutionary and fantastic that I expected the same of this one. There were too many sex scenes with too little movement in the actual story. The storyline seemed to drag on and on while I was just waiting for more action. There were many parts were the whole book seemed to pause and wait for the two many characters to play lovefest. Everyone was freaking dying and then they went on vacation to have lots of sex. Plus there was tons of unanswered questions that were just glossed over. The author focused so much on Callie and Des, that she neglected what the hell happened to the rest of the world around them. Yea sure, I love these characters but the entire world was burning down around them and not much was said about it. Plus there were many parts were it was wholly and grossly predictable. Still, I've glad I read this book and finished this series. I'm glad Callie and Des got their happy ending because it was well deserved.

Callie and Des must piece together the clues they've been given to track down the Thief of Souls and put an end to his torments.Now for the part of the review you're all waiting for: HOLY. GODS. This was a wild-ride! This book has everything I've come to expect from Laura Thalassa: witty comebacks, an air of mystery, shameless sensuality (LOTS OF IT), heartwarming romance, emotional turmoil, fiery and utterly terrifying women and villains that make your skin crawl.I truly loved how much this story focused on Callie's siren nature and her learning to embrace her powers. YASSSS GURL. Callie's character ARC completes itself in this story and she truly becomes a force to be reckoned with, a nightmare, everything she was made to be. I've always loved how Des has willed Callie to welcome who she is and has never let his presence overshadow her. They have always felt like partners to me and it was no different in this book. While many of us are here for the ever charismatic Desmond Flynn, it is Callie's character that shines in this.That said, Des is as satisfying as ever. I swear every time he uttered the words "ah, ah, ah" or asked one of his rhetorical questions I melted a little inside. Who needs a book boyfriend when you can kidnap Desmond Flynn and make him your book husband? Hah. Kidnap Desmond Flynn. Sure. You should be forewarned that Des gets a little feral and extra carnal in this, his fae nature is being pressured and he does rule over the night and everything that happens within it, after all. That said, I loved every little bit of it.Furthermore, one of the BEST parts of this story is Temper. Get yourself a best friend that's a crazy sorceress who will help you take down your enemies. I have always loved Temper's character and there were subtle hints that there is more to her story. Fingers crossed that Laura gives us more of Temper AND Malaki. (Also: Malaki, looks like he could kill you but is really a cinnamon roll, just saying...)"Even shadows can deceive and gods can die."By the end of this story we are reminded once again that behind his crown Des is the ever-calculating Bargainer. For every secret you hold, he has a dozen. Nothing gets past him and he has a plan for every scenario. Seriously, there is a part near the end that will probably have you flying out of your seat and cheering with delight.I'd also like to just say: the Thief of Souls â€¦ I KNEW IT. He has worn many faces but he was also exactly who I thought he would be! I was freaking out a little when his identity started piecing itself together more because all of my theories were totally validated.Also - have you read Laura's The Unearthly series? These two series take place in the same world and there was a juicy little Easter egg dropped about that story as well!In finality, an epic conclusion to an epic series. How will I go on with my life knowing I'm no longer waiting for more books about Callie and Des? The only thing that shall tide me over is knowing Laura Thalassa is out there, writing more stories with wonderfully devastating characters such as these. Excuse me while I super glue this to my favorites shelf because it's never allowed to leave.AND THAT PROLOGUE YO.

Some clues were obvious, but it didnâ€™t make the book boring at all.The characters are interesting and very well developed. So are the many Fae worlds that this story winds itself through.Des and Callie have a beautiful love story that starts out complicated and becomes intense and strong. The sex scenes are tasteful and relevant to the story. The secondary characters are entertaining.The first book is â€œRhapsodicâ€. If you like paranormal, suspense with a great love story, then youâ€™ll love this one. There are plenty of laughs and heart warming side tracks as well as bad guys to hate.Highly recommend.

I purchased the first edition of the book in September and my daughter received admission into Stuyvesant High School for Fall of 2016. I am writing this review for two reasons.1)My daughter found the practice exams in this book to be very useful and we are excited for her to start Stuyvesant High School.2)Her brother will be taking the exam next year, and we just purchased the second edition and I have to say I am very happy in what they are offering. My son wants to attend Bronx Science because he is interested in one of their programs. Evidently, Argo Brothers offers free live test support, so I decided to fill out their form on the website regarding a few questions my son needed further help in, and I received a call from Michael, who is a tutor for this company literally within 20 minutes, and he guided my son through those questions. I must say I am very impressed they have this support feature.If youâ€™re preparing for the specialized high school exam, this book is a no brainer, hands down one of the best books to use to prepare for the shsat exam. I hope my son will be able to score high enough for Bronx Science, I had him start early because this exam is very intensive.Â Â I would also recommend using the live support feature, if anyone has any difficulties on a problem.

There is nothing that i dislike about the book. First thing, today when i took a practice test in this book and when i was reviewing it there was lot of question in the test that i didn't know how to do, but when i when to their website and watched the videos about the question, everything make sensed. Second thing, i like their explanations about certain questions about the book because they helped me and when i went to there website i didn't know how to sign up but in the 2nd page of the book it shows how to sign up step by step. This book is the best of all the SHSAT book i have

My first daughter got into Bronx Science, using their books. I bought this year for my another daughter. I love their video explanations. That helps a lot.

This book is very helpful for the SHSAT Prep. The ELA passages are challenging and thus prepare you very effectively. The multiple choice questions are structured differently from any other material my son used so far and force you to actually think what you just read. The math section is very good and covers a multitude of things. Highly recommend this book as an additional source for SHAST Prep.

This book was clearly rushed and not properly edited. It contains too many questions that are ambiguous, irrelevant, or just plainly incorrect. It could possibly cause more harm than good to a student. Avoid it, and wait until some better resources become available.â€

The level of difficulty is right and the explanations are understandable. The review section of the book actually thought me a couple new things. The explanatory YouTube videos are also very helpful.

My son is in a honor class and have done most of the SHSAT practice books available in Amazon. He uses this book to prepare for SHSAT in 2016. He hates the book and refuses to do the practices, especially ELA. The rules and guidelines are entirely different from other books which make the questions seem to be "new" and "different" but instead they are confusing. The Reading section is overly complicated and hard to understand. The Logical Reasoning is also confusing because some questions are vague. In addition, the answer keys are different from the answers and explanations. Some answers are not accurate. The Math is OK but not much of a challenge. Overall this book does nothing but is confusing.

This book is put together quite well. On the first pages the authors go over the recent changes to the SHSAT and they cover the test-day tips. That is followed by close to 60 pages of review of English and Math concepts kids need to know. Going over those a child can already see where the weak areas are. The rest is dedicated to the 5 practice tests where the first page is conveniently dedicated to the "bubble sheet" (I prefer to make a copy for my son so he doesn't have to flip the pages back and forth), taking an extra step in making it feel even more like the real test. The book encourages kids to complete the entire 3 hour test in one sitting to truly get an idea of what the test will be like. At the end of each test there are pretty detailed explanations for both English and Math. I do plan to get the book when my younger one is in 7th grade in a couple of years. There are also a wealth of YouTube videos that cover material well beyond the SHSAT. I should also mention that personally, I really like the quality of paper used in the book.
