This is a good book if you want to learn about Project Management and how to use MS Project 2013 to manage a project. The book is geared toward both a novice and a skilled Project Manager. You can jump around in the book for topics that interest you, or work through the book from the beginning. I'm skipping the chapters on using MS Project 2013 with MS Project Server 2013 as we don't have MS Project Server 2013 up and running at this time. The book includes a web link for downloading sample files to use with exercises in the book. The main site for downloading the exercises did not work for me. I went to the backup site HTTP://sdrv.ms/19ZtxR8 listed on page 14 of the book. Working through the exercises is where most of the learning happens (at least for me). You can get a free 60 day evaluation copy of MS Project 2013 from MS. Just Google or Bing "Microsoft Project 60-Day Trial"Ken

Some reviews complain of poor print quality. I have not experienced that. But, there are many screen shots, and they are all kind of small and hard to read. The content of the book it good. I would consider myself an average user of MS Project, so I have definitely learned a lot from the book. I would recommend it.

I recommend going through the Table of Contents to confirm that it covers what you want. The author's writing style is easy to understand (5 Stars). The print quality is poor, which seems to be a trend in the last two Microsoft Press books I've purchased (3 Stars). In total, 4 Stars.

I am new to Project Server and the exercises in this book are great. The book teaches you how to move projects from Project Professional (thick client) to Project Server Web.

I like how it is organized and covers 90% of all screens available in MS Project and how to use it.

Book print is not even clear. You cannot see the figures. Overall poor quality. Don't buy this book.

Good book for a beginner, but one of the books I have found with any documentation on Project Server.

To start my review, I must disclose that I am a brother of the author (my wife and I share this Amazon account). The Gail presented in the book is pretty much the Gail I know: fun, clever, stubborn, tough, (a bit) naive, friendly, (a bit) snarky, kind, goofy, and a darn good writer. The book is a fun tale of her experiences, her thoughts during the experiences, and a glimpse into the life of a really interesting person.One disagreement I have with the author is her characterization of herself as a weak hiker. As the book mentions, after completing the PCT, Gail and Knut hiked in the Swiss/Italian Alps. I joined them for a multi-day hike on the Tour des Muverans in Switzerland. I'm not a super strong hiker, but I have climbed several mountains with friends and family, and I am typically not the weakest person in the group. Gail was substantially stronger than me on the mountain (and the grin on her face when hiking through Alpine meadows made me think she appreciated the experience more than me too). Gail's self assessment in the book might be because Knut was a stronger hiker than Gail by about the amount Gail was stronger than me. The casual reader of the book might think that if a weak hiker like Gail can do the PCT then anyone can. I disagree; what is described in the book is a demonstration of strength and toughness. Still, the book is fun to read whether you plan to hike the PCT yourself or just want to experience it through the eyes of someone else.

If you're looking for a book about how an arduous journey in the wilderness can help heal great psychic pain, then you can't do better than Cheryl Strayed's "Wild." But if you're looking to vicariously share a wonderful, though still arduous, journey in the wilderness with a remarkable and funny woman, you should definitely read "Bliss(ters)".Francis is a natural storyteller, with a wry sense of humor and a clear-eyed appreciation for the world around her and the people in it. If you need an antidote to cynicism, this is it. Time and again, Francis' incredibly difficult trek through miles of beauty and physical hardship was made just a bit easier by the kindness of "trail angels" that are apparently a part of the culture of the Pacific Crest Trail. Whether you're a fellow traveler or a confirmed couch potato who just wants to find out what makes these crazy long-distance backpackers tick, you'll enjoy this adventure with her. And you won't have to carry a pack or brave cold rain to do it!

I read a lot of hiking books. This was one of the best, I thought. Especially well-written with the use of picturesque descriptive language and colorful personal observations. I had a better sense of the terrain & scenery of the PCT, as well as the usual cast of characters one meets along the way. The author had her own special challenge in that she suffers from prosopagnosia - the inability to recognize faces, and therefore she had to rely upon voices, gaits, physical attributes and clothing. When she began the hike, she wasn't goal-focused on making it all the way, but somehow she did. And, I found myself sad when I realized she was nearing the Canadian border and, therefore, the end of the book.

I can not rave enough about all the levels on which Gail Frnacis touched me with this outrageously funny, heartfelt, personal-connection, instructional (who knew serious hikers had so many hot tips!) and just all-round great read!!!This was a book that made me laugh out loud, exhale serious sighs, cry "oh no!" and make other assorted noises out loud in public. Means I told several others they'd better buy and read this book!The author really nailed introducing us all to another culture, picturing natural beauty, leaning into slow and fast paced movement, hunkered shoulders, RAW FEET...this hike is now a shared adventure and accomplishment that will be recurring inspiration.I laughed out loud, cringed, cried a little with this GREAT READ!The author's people observations and life lessons in the book are so clear and touchable -- making it possible to both appreciate who she is (evidently ever evolving) as well as being able to utilize it all or hope to store some away for future applications.Wherever you are I hope your feet are comfy and warm, Gail Francis! I certainly appreciate mine more now.I can't help but relate to your book as multi-layered lessons applicable on and off the trail.I now have several new locations to check out for natural beauty in the West Coast states!You and your book are both real gifts!Perfect timing for the holidays and giving to people who love the outdoors or love to read about it all.

I've tried to hike PCT twice ... 400 miles was max. The "samples" for PCT books usually cover this part, so I know an accurate account. When it's also interestingly written, I buy the book. I bought this book. I'm glad I did. She does a good job of conveying the early thoughts to go home verses the compulsion to go on. Read this carefully & you known what you would be thinking very near that same place on the map.

Well balanced, realistic read that was about the rigors and joys of long-distance hiking. The author brought us along on the trail, introduced us to the PCT without getting too technical. We get a glimpse of the difficulties, along with the people who hike this amazing trail. Some travelogues are more about an authors emotional turmoil that they carry and work through while hiking. This book is a reflection of hiking for the love of the hike. It is rare to step into a travelogue and not feel like an intruder. The reader is welcomed along as a friend. There is no bad language or graphic scenes. Highly recommend. Pack light and travel far.

(Not with towels but with other things lacking in the bathroom when I need them! Is it obvious what attracted me to this book besides the lack of cost? Unglued is easily a word I can use to describe myself. Being an organized, detailed person, who thinks ahead and puts much thought into everything, the littlest things will tick me off. And I don't mean, oh I'm getting mad. It's more like instant boiling anger in the form of yelling and iffy language. Yes, everyone has their moments, but mine were daily and concentrated on my husband and kids. For a long time I just did what I could because it didn't seem there was anything I could do, the raw emotion was so instantaneous.Then I read Unglued and TerKeurst's explanations of how people's emotions work stuck with me. I have a combination of two types she discusses. With my family I am what she calls an exploder. Exploders hold nothing back. But, I knew that wasn't all of it because with friends, even if I do get mad, I don't explode on them. The other half of my personality is what TerKeurst calls stuffer. I stuff all negative emotions when dealing with friends and acquaintances and ignore them for as long as possible. Eventually a stuffer's feelings will explode, but it usually takes time. I found that I would take my stuffed feelings home and explode there. Why we take advantage of the ones we love most is beyond me.Unglued talks about other types of people as well as the negative consequences of raw emotion that you might not see coming. It really opened my eyes and although I don't always think in time to stop myself, I realize as I begin to rant or stuff that I need to stop and think. This is absolutely progress for me - "imperfect progress" as TerKeurst would say, but still progress.

This book really got me to thinking ...here I am nearly 70 years old, and I am still becoming unglued...a lot. This book has given me the "vehicle to ride in" toward being my best self..to honor God with EVERYTHING I say and do. Also to accept the free gifts of grace and forgiveness that are promised to me. I wish I could have had this book as a young mother ! I gave a copy to my daughter ...in hopes she can avoid the slippery slope I have as much as on.

Great wisdom in this book- I took away a lot of information and hope to make my own imperfect progress.If you're struggling with becoming angry- bitter- jealous... unglued whether with kids, husband, co-worker etc... this book would be a great tool for you. This book is not just good, it's LIFE CHANGING fantastic. She hits the nail on the head and it's such a relief to know that someone else totally gets it. It's not about being perfect overnight or even at all, it's about making imperfect progress. Love.

I must admit, the only reason I bought this book was because it was .99 on Kindle. At the time of purchasing, I had just started reading The Best Yes. Typically, I have a few books going at one time with several on my nightstand and hundreds on my “to read” list. I began Unglued and was very eager to relate with Lysa like I had while devouring The Best Yes. Yes, Unglued was a great read, and I found myself relating to many of the circumstances that TerKeust describes; however, the book was full of her being angry at friends, family members, strangers, etc., with no actual solutions to managing meltdowns.I continued to read, because if I start something, especially if I pay for it, I will finish it. I even sat it down for a couple weeks. Finally, I picked it back up and continued to read. Perhaps it was because I needed a Lysa break or maybe the second part of the book is better, but when I began reading for the second time, I quickly finished the book in two settings.My biggest takeaway from Unglued is that these moments are opportunities to expand, grow, and extend our grace toward others. In addition, it is okay to be broken as long as we turn toward scripture and lean on God’s promises.

This book was a breath of fresh air, and I just absolutely loved it! It was funny, wonderfully written, and packed with inspiration. And I don't mean for kids, I mean for adults too. Even Marley's story is inspirational, and it was more so when I discovered in the book that she's the daughter of a PhD Sociology mom, and a real estate analytical geographer dad. I read this book and wanted to run out to change the world. My favorite quote in the book was this one:"My parents are always pushing me to do my best, even though my best may not look like other people's bests."I just don't think change is going to happen by beating it into people's minds with hammers. It's going to happen with the freshness that comes with finding passion, inspiration, and motivation in unexpected places. This book was fantastic, and it was all of those things. As a side note, I ended up buying the kindle version of this book, but I was in the local bookstore earlier, and the paper copy was just absolutely beautiful. Such wonderful photography, and colorful, glossy pages.Regardless of format though, I'd recommend it to everyone, adults and kids alike!

I liked that the author is so young and that at her age she decided to make a change in what she saw for the betterment for herself and others. She has become the catalist for every young person who reads this book. I will get as many of these books into the hands of children for their benefit, boys as well as girls. Great job Marley! My 10-year old African American daughter absolutely LOVES this book! She found it inspirational, funny and so easy to relate to. She did not put it down until she had read it cover to cover. She even requested that I buy one for one of he friends as a birthday gift, which I promptly did. As an aside, my daughter wears glasses and was so amused by the fact that Marley has multiple pairs in several colors. She thinks Marley is the coolest! Well done Marley and parents!!

There are a total of 101 pages in this book, but only 21 of the pages I found to have useful content, such as puzzles, games, cultural facts about Puerto Rico, etc. 30 pages comprised of diary pages where you fill in the date, the weather, a journal entry, and draw a picture. There are another 10 pages for reflection and coloring upon arriving home. The other 60 pages are checklists or lists of some sort, a packing list, a list of people you want to send post card to, size conversions, (which don't apply to Puerto Rico), puzzles/games, and the answer keys. Just buy a blank diary and find a good travel with children website.

Excellent travel journal for kids. Has about 14 days and each day asks what the date is, weather, gives space to write about your day, asks what the funniest thing that happened, the best food of the day, and what they liked best about the day. They also leave a page to add a drawing or picture for each day. There are games for the flight and down time too.

I have lived in the Dominican Republic for 22 years. This book has some good information about the country, but it also has MANY blank "journal" pages. My suggestion as someone who lives in the DR: Look up info on the country online and review it as a family. Then, just buy your child a journal notebook. The book is overpriced for the content (lack of).

I'll be heading to Alaska in 2017 for 3 weeks. Wanted something compact to record my thoughts about my trip. This will be perfect! Also has puzzles (with the answers in the back), that will be too simple for me, but I can work them with my grandkids.The journal part of the book is laid out in a 2-page spread...on the left there is room for the date, a small space to describe the weather and several lines to fill in with "What we did today". There are 3 lines at the bottom of the page with "Cool food of the day", "What I liked best today" and "Funny thing of the day." The right page has the title "Draw something you saw today" with a large frame underneath. At the bottom of the right page it says, "My picture is of:" That last thing will be good for me since I can't draw to save my soul and most things I do draw don't look much like what they are supposed to be.There's a list of websites you can use to research more about Alaska and pages to list what you'd like to see or places you'd like to visit. There are also 2 pages devoted to listing the names and addresses of people you'd like to send post cards too.The small size (7.5" wide x 9.25" tall and about 1/4" thick) will make it easy to slip into my backpack.

These were a gift for visiting children. They loved the journals! Both children explored with excitement to find the perfect subject for the day's journal entries.

Well received by grandchildren. They'll keep records of their many travels.

In this interesting book, YuKong Zhao shares "Five Inspiring Confucian Values" which he states are the secrets for China's success. And in the spirit of full disclosure, I will share that during the decade of the 90's I spend a great deal of time studying Taoism and a bit of Confucianism. When it comes to my life philosophy, Taoism resonates with me. So I am "predisposed" to take this message quite seriously. Additionally, I have learned to look to many different sources for new ideas, business models and ways of re-framing challenges. Mr. Zhao did not disappoint me. He provides much grist for the mill.Of the many Confucian values for a peaceful and healthy society, Mr. Zhao chose these five:Determination for an Outstanding Life - having a big dreamPursuing an Excellent Education - keeping in mind a global economySaving for a Better Life - lessons from 2008 show how important thisCaring for your Family - considered the most important building block of societyDeveloping Desirable Friendships - building community not just contacts and acquaintancesIt is difficult to see how these values would NOT be helpful if adopted and strengthened by US citizens. And upon reflection, these are values that we have embraced in the past. There is also ample evidence that these values have indeed served China well. What intrigues me is the concept of applying (some would say regaining) these values along side the US penchant for individualism, taking initiative and assuming reasonable risk.China is taking the best of Capitalism and shaping it to fit within a centrally planned economy. For them, the challenge will be to not lose the Confucian values that helped them build a cohesive society while at the same time allowing the natural tendency toward free markets to blossom when left alone. In a visit to China some years ago, my observation was that indeed, capitalism was alive and well in the small local markets. It could not have been missed by Chinese officials, so one can only conclude that the government was allowing the experiment to continue.The task of rebuilding our sense of the greater good and personal restraint will be much more difficult than we think. Our nation seems divided along socioeconomic lines. It feels as though the struggle may well be between the rugged individualism we have been used to, replete with "super heroes" (the top 1%), and the need for team players to propel us into successful competition in the global economy. If one believes that we will need to pull together as a country in order to play in the global game, then Mr. Zhao's advice to consider these Confucian values is well taken.It remains to be seen if the US is mature enough to admit that we don't necessarily have all the answers and that we aren't necessarily at the top of our game any more. Will we be able to learn from other countries? Can we take the best practices and apply them to our own culture? I believe we have no choice in the matter if we are to be among the global leaders in the future. The Chinese Secrets for Success is a good start to at least getting us thinking in a productive way.

So how does one find a plan for personal (and family) success? Here is an alternative path for those of us who know we'll never take the "Tiger Mom" route. The author weaves an interesting pattern, adapting the wisdom of an ancient sage through the lens created with opportunities and freedoms found in the United States. Zhao's book is well written, and flows smoothly, a pleasant surprise considering that the author was raised during the twilight era of communist China, not exactly the stomping ground for elite English majors. Reaching back almost 25 centuries, he manages to distill first a dozen, then five key elements that can be tapped for success on a personal level. These elements are simple, easy to understand and implement. And we've all heard them in one form or another ("aim high", "no pain-no gain"), but it is presented the rare viewpoint of someone overcoming enormous cultural and language differences. This is not a novel by Michael Crichton or Tom Clancy, so there's no pulsing action that draws the reader from one scene to the next (so maybe it's really 4.5 stars). But it is worth the read as we look out at a world that, as Friedman reminds us, is getting flatter by the day. And flatter means more competitiveness, and one where achieving success against odds that seem increasingly stacked against the family will require more than an academic degree.

This is a really well written book! It's worth reading regarding topics such as parenting, the pursuit of high-quality education, career enrichment, money management, family/life harmony, and friendship selection. Unlike most self-help books, Zhao provides unique bi-cultural perspectives that are awakening and insightful. Mr. Zhao shares inside secrets on why most second generations of Asian immigrants are so successful.The first-generation Chinese immigrants started out with low paying jobs such as barbers, waiters etc. In comparison, the second-generation Chinese immigrants have reached well-paid and better jobs such as engineers, doctors etc. For the first time, Mr. Zhao unveils the secrets behind this significant change: the first generation's sacrifice and Confucian values they faithfully applied to their lives -- aim high with achievable means, work hard, save for a rainy day, family first, friends you can count on etc.For those American who are struggling with their lives or those who want raise successful children, this is a must read. For Asian Americans who want their children to learn and to keep their great heritage, this is a must have, because it tells the root of Chinese culture and many inspiring stories in such a resourceful way!
