I read the first twinborn series and really enjoyed it. This time I have trouble getting into it,(three worlds kept getting mixed up in my mind and I have been moving to a new town, so I wasn't always there.) But when I finally got the worlds separate in my head the story took off. But warning there is a very large cast. Many twists and turns abound in this 4 books series. (I like have all four books together.) Another great mix of SF and fantasy by J.S. Morin. Now I can get to The Planet Hustlers and Rebel Robots, both series are highly recommended. In fact anything he write I will recommend every time. He writes that well.
World building at it's finest. The Mad Tinker collection is an exercise in memory for the reader with two or three different populations at odds with each other and intersecting worlds tenuously connected by the exertions of the Mad Tinker(s). This is a fun read which exercises your imagination and memory and offers interesting political and societal observations.Because of the complexity of the plot lines, it isn't a particularly fast read but it is a worthwhile exercise in appreciating the writers craft. And it is above all, very well written. (I gave it four stars due to the complex nature of the story, It actually should have been 4.5 .)
This review is slightly premature because I haven't finished this series yet. However, I have read three and a half of the 4 books so I think I have the gist of the storyline and writing style. It's entertaining and based on an interesting concept- there are multiple worlds and twin versions of humans living on the various worlds. I find myself disliking one of the main characters(Ryn), which is strange because I do like her "twin self" Madlyn. You'd probably have to read it for that to make any kind of sense! It's not a particularly deep, profound work but it's not meant to be. It is nicely written and a fun adventure to delve into!
Interesting world building and the twin born made for an interesting way to contrast cultures. Plenty of twists and turns and enough surprises to satisfy. However the actual mechanism of twin born wasn't integrated into the final reveal aa I might have hoped.
This started a bit slower than the other twinborn books but it was interesting overall A lot of unlikable characters who get what the deserve..
Disjointed and unreadable... Pass on this one. Author presents complex concepts without explaining any of it. You are expected to just know what these concepts are. Multiple races without defining what the races are. Very annoying and I put it down after about 6 chapters.
I had read the first book a while ago and was glad to finally get to read the rest. It does get confusing at times as you jump through worlds, but it is very clever and engaging.
This has to be one of the most original story lines I have ever experienced. The mix of magic and technology is brilliant. I want more.
