I guess I’m a little confused. There are supposed to be 85 essays in the Federalist but this book only has 18. I don’t see a description of the book that warns of this. Am I missing something? The introduction talks about all 85 essays as if they are all in this publication. Nothing in the product discription warns that this publication only contains an abreviated list of the essays.

It should be noted this does not include ALL of the Federalist Papers. It is a selected few, which I didn't notice when I bought it. I wanted them all sor study purposes, so I got another paperback with all 86 papers for 1/2 the price at a bookstore.

In the description it says, "This book features edited highlights of the essays". This isn't the case for the hard copy edition. It doesn't even have half of the papers in this edition. Returned

Most books with the Federalist Papers that I could find only had a selection of them included. This book contains all 85 and also lists who wrote them and when they were published (if that information is available). It also has a fairly decent Table of Contents so you can easily find the paper you're looking for. The constitution is also included at the beginning which some people might find handy. Overall exactly what I was looking for. Would buy again.

“The Federalist Papers” (more correctly called “The Federalist”) is a series of 85 essays that seek to explain the United States Constitution and the American system of government. Written between 1787 and 1788 by Founding Fathers Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay, these documents were published in order to persuade citizens to vote in favor of ratifying the Constitution.I think “The Federalist Papers” rank alongside the Constitution and Declaration of Independence as the most important documents in American history. They are absolutely essential reading for anyone wishing to explore and understand how and why the American system of government works the way it does. Because they’re written in a style common to 18th century writers, “The Federalist Papers” can frequently be tedious to read. (Nobody will ever accuse Hamilton, Madison, or Jay of having a particularly lively or interesting writing style.)However stilted their writing style, Hamilton, Madison, and Jay’s arguments are clear, cogent and persuasive. They are of immeasurable help in providing readers with a clear understanding of what the framers of the Constitution intended, and how the Federal system of American government works. This particular edition of "The Federalist Papers" is specially prepared for use on Kindle devices. There is no explanatory introduction by legal scholars or political pundits. Nor are there any endnotes or footnotes. Readers are permitted to read these essays as they were written, and to form their own judgments about what they've read. Most highly recommended.

It contains all of the papers that I didn't receive from the The Complete Federalist and anti Federalist book I purchased before. Now I can read all of them!

This is the absolute best version of this celebrated books! All such books contain the accurate text of the papers themselves, but this book contains so much more, and eliminates the need for the many additional books it would take to complete one's understanding of this priceless reference to the Supreme Law of the American Nation, our Constitution. The Introduction by Charles Kessler is 25 pages and a terrific read in itself. In this introduction he puts the Federalist into the context of the history then and its significance now. He also helps to explain the overall scheme of the papers, as well as important, general themes, and points to significant numbers and passages in support of the overall scheme and important general themes. Add 22 pages of Précis, a short summary of each of the 85 papers, which gives every reader a good idea of the contents of every paper, and a better basis for understanding the contents and overall frame of Publius' arguments. Also in this amazing reference book are copies of the Articles of Confederation, the Declaration, and the Constitution. Furthermore, the copy of the Constitution is collated with the Federalist Papers; the corresponding page number of the passage in the Federalist is shown in the margin, next to the related passage in the Constitution. This is another benefit to a more thorough understanding of the Federalist Papers. Another great tool placed in this book, which is absolutely essential for understanding Publius' meanings in the individual papers, are the 66 page Notes section which explains the many references to Historical people, places, and events that are inserted in the Federalist, all of which may have been common knowledge to the Founders, but are often lost in today's readers. Finally, there is a small, selected bibliography for additional research, and a thorough index. If one cares to read, what Thomas Jefferson called "...the best commentary on the principles of government which ever was written..." and to understand those principles and our Founders' intentions in framing our Constitution, this is the best one book source for doing so.

This is an incomplete set of the Federalist Papers. Only 18 are included with a superficial set of introductions. Looks nice on the cover but not what it claims. These were selected and edited by R. B. Bernstein, which is not obvious from the presentation.

The Cemetery of Forgotten Books trilogy written by Carlos Ruiz Zafon has been my favorite find of 2016. The stories are riviting, the characters are complex and engaging, and his wrtiting style has a classical poetic lyricism to it. I flew The Prisoner of Heaven, The Angel's Game, and The Shadow of the Wind in record time. The stories aren't dependant on one another so you can start them in any order and the only real cohesion between them are the visits to characters that we know or know of and their connections to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a bibliophiles fantasy of a secret underground library containing thousands of the rarest books that have ever existed, looked after by a robed victorian figure who walks its sacred halls by lantern light.

This is a novel set in Barcelona before the Spanish Civil War. As I understand it, this is a prequel to "The Shadow of The Wind", which is why I read it. The writing is undeniably brilliant. However the storyline seemed to take a long time to develop and was very intricate. There were times I had to read and reread sections of this fine novel. And although I finished it, I am not sure that I understood it.Basically, the novel starts out as an interesting story about the life of a young man in Barcelona. It then evolves into a paranormal, mystery, thriller. As stated above, this is a prequel to "The Shadow of The Wind" which I have not read as of yet. That novel was recommended to me and when I saw this is a prequel I decided to read this book first. Perhaps this novel will make more sense after I read "The Shadow of The Wind".As an American, I really appreciated the setting of this novel in Barcelona. I have never been there. I have been studying the Spanish Civil War and this novel is set before that conflict. I enjoyed the parallel reading that I did about Barcelona and learned a good deal in addition to enjoying this fine novel. In summary, I am glad that I read this novel, but am not sure I understood it. I am now looking forward to reading "The Shadow of The Wind". Thank You.

After discovering The Shadow of the Wind at a used book store, I eagerly purchased two more Zafon novels. The first I read after Shadow was "The Angel's Game". Shadow of the Wind was a great book. One I really enjoyed - the prose, the descriptions, the atmosphere were amazing. Zafon is a skilled writer. This book starts off very similar to the Shadow of the Wind; Gothic and beautiful Barcelona, characters that you really connect with and feel for, characters are writers and into books, Cemetery of Forgotten Books and Sempre's make an appearance but then as other writers have said - the last 1/3 of the book sort of went downhill. There was one big similar plot point that was used again from Shadow into Angel - having to do with a disfigured victim of a fire (I wont ruin the plot)that I found too formulaic from novel to novel. I would have liked to have seen another plot device used instead of another fire victim. As soon as the fire issue was raised I knew what was going to happen. That was disappointing. What was a major twist in Shadow became 'not another fire victim' in this book. Many MANY things were very ambiguous at the end of the book. Was it a dream? Was it the "Angel's Game?" Was he losing his mind? Immortality? How and why? The Angel's motive? Why the angel feels 'remorse' if he is actually Lucifer - or was he and why did he not pursue Martin who made a deal with him? What's up with the doctor? Did Martin really have the brain tumor? You never figured it out and left me unsatisfied with the ending and with the book as a whole. Also without spoiling the ending, raising the little girl into being his future lover was a bit odd too. I was hoping for more resolutions and explanations for all the mysticism in the book. If anyone wants to comment and explain what I missed, that would be great. I'm still trying to figure it out - someone suggested reading the book again and it comes together more. I admit I probably wont read it again though. Rarely do I read books over again - although Shadow of the Wind IS a book to read again in a few years time and enjoy. Shadow earned itself a permanent spot on my bookshelf but this book didn't.However - the big however - Zafon still is a master storyteller and I am going to start his next book right now and hope its better than this one and there are no disfiguring fires in this next one as a plot point. I think that plot device has been used enough.

I enjoyed the atmospheric descriptions of Barcelona in the early 20th century, and I found the concepts, philosophical questions raised, and plot setup to be very interesting. But then I felt Zafon "jumped the shark" in the last third of the book, leaving too many loose threads and unanswered questions, with an unsatisfying ending.

At some point I think I began to understand what was happening in this book. I'm not sure when the message clicked, but I do know that not everyone will pick up on it. That feeling stayed with me all the way through the last sentence, when I felt the strangest sensation, something like holding up a mirror to a mirror and wishing I was looking at something else but knowing full well that the endless reflection is exactly what I should have expected from David Martin. I know that doesn't seem to make any sense if you haven't read this book. That's fine. If you read it, you might understand what I'm talking about.Anyone interested in supernatural mysteries (oddly, in general I don't fall into that category) should read this and Zafon's other Cemetery books, without hesitation.
