This South Beach Diet beginners guide teaches us how to improve overall health. With the short overview, I've learned that our body should be consuming the right fats, right carbohydrates, lean source of protein and plenty of fiber which are the principles of South Beach Diet. Recipes are well-created and I think they all delicious and definitely healthy. Very nice cookbook.

The beginning of following the south beach diet is quite hard for me so far but I don’t give up. The chicken is what really saves me during the first phase – I love it very much and have it several times a day.

This is an excellent cookbook that has all the necessary information about south beach diet. The book also includes many recipes that take less than 15 minutes to prepare, plus quick-cook deals.

It seems the author Emma Green has written a book on every popular and/or fad diet known to man just to ride the skirt tale of their success and make a buck for herself. This book was POORLY put together! The graphics in the beginning of the book are blurry; they can be read, but look like a copy, of a copy, of a copy..... The first 2 recipes I read had errors. Pistachio Biscotti (pg 55) the baking time is listed as 20 minutes, but if you read the directions it is 20 minutes PLUS 10 MORE minutes to bake again. When professionally publishing a book, please get your basic math correct! EVER WORSE she has a Stuffed Pork Burger (pg 70) marked as "Phase 1" and pork and bread are FORBIDDEN on Phase 1. Page 7 claims the book has "mostly Phase 1 recipes" but actually has TWICE as many Phase 2 recipes than Phase 1. She contradicts Dr. Agatston who created the South Beach Diet and do not see "DR." by her name! I could go on, but you get the picture. This recourse CAN NOT be trusted ! ! ! !

This is great book for diet. Lots of recipes that are helpful for diet. I have found that any diet I follow has to be one I can integrate into my day-to-day lifestyle and meal plans.South beach diet is an appropriate and ultimate guide book particularly for beginners. I would highly recommended this book everyone.

I buy this style of cook book to get my own creative juices flowing to create recipes & methods to take food on the road and trail and eat much better than using pre-packaged commerical products. You'd be amazed at not only the higher quality of foods but also better prices and better taste can be had with some care and prep in advance. Another source are the make a meal in a jar books for gifting. They too use a lot of freeze dried vegi's and fruits and powdered eggs and real cheese powdered and whole grain pastas so you can make omlets or egg dishes and pancakes with fruits as well as hearty soups and pasta dishes or to die for taco's and mexican meals. Go vegi only or add meats. These books get you there..it's up to you to take it to the highest level. What I like most...you can avoid too much salt or worse the hidden salt in pre-made mixes or foods. Though I rarely follow a specific recipe through on any cook book including these and this one...I found a few worth giving a try in the A fork in the Trail. Some are just so interesting and novel and as their own words state...mouthwatering meals and tempting treats...oh yeah they seem to have me under their spell. Trouble this year is our summer is coming very late to the area. High country is still blocked out due to snow. Can't even hike the not so high what most of us think as local morning or day hikes due to snow chutes blocking the trails.....this time of year? Then again Going to the Sun Road hasn't opened in Glacier Park either and it's July and that's only 120 miles from our back door too. Rivers to high to float still....dang it. The recipes might be worth fixing right here in our own back yard just cause:))) They sound that good. This one is a keeper and I'm something of an expert on feeding people well in all sorts of carry your own food circumstances...cars/planes/trains/bikes/foot/kayaks....fill you up. I recommend to anyone who likes to eat well on the road or impress others along too.

I have purchased many backpack food books in the past. I liked this book, but it is not my favorite. I found some recipes that I have tried and liked. Others that I am still wanting to try. I am not into backcountry oven cooking. I did not find that part of the book useful. Maybe if I do more car camping I will try some of those recipes.

GREAT BOOK. I highly recommend it. I have made many recipes. She opened my eyes to safely make my own backpacking food that includes MEAT... crazy good stuff.

More for camping and short trips I thought, than full backpacking. Nice recipes

The type of stretching Anderson recommends--called "static," meaning you sit in one place and hold the stretch for a specified amount of time--isn't exactly trendy, but it remains the most accessible way for entry-level exercisers to improve their flexibility. (Or, perhaps more important, to keep from losing whatever flexibility they have as they get older.) Those who already have the version of the book that's been put out by Shelter Publications since 1980 won't find a whole lot that's new in this 20th-anniversary version. Some of the simple drawings by Anderson's wife, Jean, have been updated to show athletes in sport-specific outfits doing stretching routines, and there are more routines than before. The new edition includes routines for children, stretches to do in front of the TV, and some exercises to do before and after gardening. Plus, the old staples remain--stretching routines for all muscle groups, and pre- and postplay sequences for common sports (football, baseball, basketball) and a few uncommon ones (equestrian, motocross, rodeo). He's also created routines for sports that barely existed in 1980, such as snowboarding, triathloning, and inline skating. The constant in Stretching is ease of use. Anderson doesn't need a lot of complex explanations because the drawings are so easy to follow. He makes it clear that stretching should make you feel better, not worse, and that it's not a competition. Any little bit you can do is better than not doing anything. I have had printed out copies of pages of this book several years ago but never had the book itself. I had stretches for biking and running, but not for the first leg of my triathlons, swimming. So without knowing the book name or the authors I found it on amazon - and got the 30th anniversary edition. Lots more in this edition, with exercises for desk sitters, manual workers, as well as athletes. Wonderful collection, very clear pictures showing exactly where the stretch should focus.

As many have written, a must have.I've had and used a copy of this book for over 15 years, and a friend saw it, mentioned that he wanted it. I bought a copy for his upcoming birthday, received the 30th Anniversary Edition, and, embarrassed to say, I'm keeping it for myself.This edition is a WONDERFUL upgrade, and even if you've had previous editions, the graphics and editing are well worth the money.There are stretches here for every level, and you can enjoy opening your body up a little at a time, or, if you are active, you can delight in new ways to prevent injury and enjoy this precious machine you're living in with flexibility and grace.Highest recommendations.

This isn't one of those "I just got the product and it still has shrink wrap on it but I really, really love the cover so five stars" reviews. I've been using this book for over a month now. I have multiple books on fitness and stretching (including yoga and pilates), and I can say that this is a legit fitness book. Compared to my other stretching book (Stretching Anatomy), there is no comparison. While SA gives you lots of pictures and descriptions of the muscles you stretch, this book actually gives you series of stretching programs and teaches you how to enjoy them. SA's motto is "the more it hurts the better you're doing". This book's motto is "no pain no gain is a bunch of BS so don't hurt yourself and relax and enjoy the stretches". I love the stretching technique in the book. It helps you ease into a stretch and know when you're doing it right. After a month+ of use I can say that it works. I have used it after waking up, before going to bed, to warm up for pilates workouts in the morning, to warm up for running, cycling, weightlifting, and sports, to cool down from all of these, and to stretch out tight muscles in my back, legs and shoulders. The book is a wonderful resource and has helped supplement my other activities superbly. I recommend this book to everyone, athlete or non-athlete. You will benefit by learning how to stretch properly.

I really enjoy this book. I have done some of the stretches. The illustration of each stretch is sometimes all that is necessary to perform the stretch although if you need more, there are directions for each stretch. In some cases, there is a stretch illustration that is marked with an X to indicate the incorrect way to perform the stretch and then the correct illustration is next to the incorrect one. There is a chapter devoted to stretches for each major muscle that is used, such as the a chapter with stretches for the shoulders. At the end of each chapter, there is an illustrated summary of the stretches. There is also a guide to stretches for many activities such as running, bowling, swimming, golf, and many others. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a comprehensive guide to stretching.

I'm a physical therapy professional and I have utilized some of these stretches in the course of patient care from time to time. I bought my first copy back when I was a competitive athlete in what seems like a former lifetime and before I became a health care clinician. That copy is so old the center of the pages are yellowish brown and the outer edge of the pages were the same color brown as on the cover. I did notice some nice updates, What I particularly appreciate is the attention to explaining proper body mechanics to prevent substitution, that is something I'm VERY particular about and I couldn't find fault with any of the instructions given. I recommend this book to my patients I feel would benefit from it.

This book was recommended by my physical trainer who had an earlier edition. This edition has been updated with extra material and the illustrations are clearer due to the use of subtle color shading. It is an excellent resource of those of us who are getting along in years and stiffening up with age. Well written with decent illustrations, I highly recommend this book

Simulation in design is a very good thing and is expanding most of our abilities to build and capture volume in beautiful new ways - however simulation is not the origin of conception in design. Conception is a more ambiguous process inspired by interactions of the hand-eye coordinated iterative drawing process engaging with the conscious and sub-conscious mind. As architects this approach is best investigated privately as a process in expanding our own intuitive perceptions. . . .Those who do not see this sentient connection with "drawing" may well become good designers on the computer - but they will probably miss the many epiphanies of a more sentient, personal and sublime design experience.Although I have not yet received or read this book, I am delighted that it has been published.

This is a really great view into the world of Edward Gorey and based around the recent exhibit at the Wadsworth. I purchased a copy of this while on the Cape and then purchased another copy on Amazon to gift to a friend. What I really liked about this book was that it had equal parts pictures and text. There were biographical details about Gorey, his inspirations, and the art he created. There are copies of some of his collected art and the book contrasts the art that he liked to the art that he created. The cover is hard and covered in a fabric, which is a really cool touch to the book.

A well researched and beautifully illustrated catalog of the Atheneum Museum's exhibition of the art "accumulated" by Gorey and how it was reflected in his work. One lives in hope the exhibition will one day go on tour with stops on the West Coast.

A wonderful book about Edward Gorey. I loved it and HIGHLY recommend it to Gorey fans!

Edward Gorey is a national treasure. I am delighted to have some insight to him as a person. One doesn't need it to enjoy his work but it's interesting and entertaining.
