As I have been following the world of PSCs and especially Blackwater for years already and writing my master thesis about it, it was a nice insight from the opposite side to read what happened and why which decisions were taken. You have to be interested in this topic, but if you are: the book is a must! Do take care not to take everything for granted and read critical.

Not quite hagiographic, but certainly fawning."M.o.W." is also missing the serious strategic analysis that, while probably more likely to contribute to a less-flattering narrative for Prince and his firm (especially in the context of corrupt government contracting), would've generated some historical value for the book. Another reader notes, "Blackwater started with $200,000 in contracts in 2000, and ended up with over $1 billion income in the next seven years. Simons explains very little of how that occurred." HBS won't pull a case-study out of this text...Looking back on "M.o.W." post-Snowden, in the age of Greenwald and Poitras when they're at the height of their professional power, success and relevance, this book seems to be the antithesis of real investigative journalism. It reads like something one would expect from a strategic/crisis communications firm."A CNN producer and anchor, Suzanne Simons is the first journalist to get deep inside Blackwater—and, as a result of her unprecedented access..." <===== says it all. "M.o.W." = "access-journalism", not investigative journalism. Seemed to become a little dull during parts however finished quite well in outlining the companies slow down due to reputation and politics. Would recommend the read if you are wanting to understand more about Erik or Blackwater.

I am an amateur macro creator. I have probably purchased at least 10 different books claiming to be for "Absolute Beginners" wanting to learn how to write macros. NONE of them are formatted like THIS book. This book lays out a consistent 1-2-3 process that makes macro writing very understandable. It doesn't just explain WHAT you need to do but WHY you need to do it so you can apply it to other situations. And, by the way, along the way, you really learn how to write your own macros!

I cant recommend this book enough: 5 stars. It can be hard to get rolling when you first start learning VBA. It's all very well learning about objects and properties, subs and functions, loops and so forth... how do you put all the pieces together? And really to learn VBA you need to write VBA regularly, starting with the simple stuff and then working your way up. That is where this book come in handy. The writer starts off describing what he wants the routine to do; then he shows you the code; and then he explains the code. This is how I used the book: I would try to write the code myself based on the writers plan for what the routine should do. When I got stuck I would take a peak at his solution. After I got a handle on it I would then move on to the next macro, occasionally reviewing the earlier stuff to make sure it had stuck in my mind. This has helped me to build up a working vocabulary of vba so that I can be creative building my own routines. This is "conversational vba" rather than just theory. It is a good companion to VBA for Dummies, Power Programming with VBA or the VBA Programmers Reference (all excellent books). I'll add one more point: I have the Kindle edition and it is good (no formatting issues that one occasionally comes across with computer books that have been converted to Kindle).

I guess I was hoping this would take me into more depth in my VBA, but for the most part, the macros seem to be one-liners or so, showing you how to save a workbook, etc. I guess looking at the table of contents now it's my own fault since it lists all the macros, but I had imagined 101 page long macros that gave me more ideas of incorporating insider tricks beyond the basics. Nothing wrong with this book if you are just starting out, other than the hefty price, and three stars may be a bit blase, but with all the glaring reviews, I can't bring myself to give it any more praise. I wish I'd have gone with the Power Programming book.

UPDATE: In all fairness, while I earlier described a limitation below, the book now helped me with a macro to add hyperlinks from multiple worksheets onto a summary sheet. While it took me some time to tailor the vba code as offered by the book, it saved me hours of work, so I changed my rating from 3 to 4 stars. Thanks!!It's a good introductory book for macros in Excel... with one great limitation. As the book goes through example after example of how to select ranges it never really addresses how to select ranges of variable lengths (i.e., lengths in rows or columns for which you don't know how long they are, nor do you need to know). In other words, the book focuses on specific known ranges (i.e., Range("A2:F4")). It does not teach how to select ranges with an unknown parameters... and this is a HUGE LIMITATION - which is why I rated it with 3 stars.

I agree with some reviewers - the macros in this book are pretty much useless in the corporate world. Yes, there are 101 macros that are "ready-to-use" but who would actually use them? I would prefer 10 macros which save your time and increase your productivity. But then I guess you can't charge $20+ for those.

Great book if you are just beginning to write VBA code. However, I had already written most found in here and adjusted them to perform at a higher level. However, still works as a reference for when I have those brain dead moments and can usually get me going again.

The reader will need to have some knowledge of and experience with Excel Macros.

Useful book of canned VBA...especially if you're relatively new to VBA.But even if you're an intermediate (maybe even advanced), I'll bet you find new ways of approaching old problems. A couple of times I found myself thinking "that's a good approach!"

I've been in the plumbing construction business for over 15 years. The plumbing code book and gas-fitters code book read like a set of instructions rather than a user friendly guide. It's like reading a play by Shakespeare; you have to actually see the play or or look at cliff notes to thoroughly understand its real meaning. There are so many references to other code books and vague inferences in the chapters that make it frustrating to the plumber who really wants to grasp the engineering principles and not just pass the test and get a card. Experience is just as important as book knowledge. That is hard to come by in the construction business. There may be some good plumbers but there are very few good leaders. Usually one learns from their mistakes. The lack of understanding and substandard installation in plumbing can only lead to property damage and embarassment. However, when installing gas piping and fixtures a poor installation could cause death.

The product was ok when it shipped, it was shipped awkwardly and I think it caused more damage to the book than was listed. Other than that it is ok, I would not have listed it as what the seller listed it as, kinda false advertisement...

I gave this book a 5star because it has helped me tremendously. This is my second time reading this book and my life has changed with so much richness in it. This book is so life changing if it is read with an understanding of how the Universe really works. Your desires will come to you just as you imagine them. Our minds can create anything we desire in our lives. It's a science that can not fail. If we practice a deep feeling of gratitude uniting ourselves with Devine Intelligence,all things are possible.

At first when I got this book I was annoyed and a little disappointed. First at the brevity of the book. It is under 100 pages, almost like a pamphlet I thought. Then when I went to read it the language was sophisticated! (WHAT!?!haha) Not at all the type of language I'm accustomed to when reading books talking about self help principles (I generally feel self help books employ a very casual tone and language). Those two things right there meant that I left this book sitting on my nightstand while I tore through many other books surrounding wealth creation, and success.Finally I ran out of those, and in the interim I reluctantly felt I should give this book one more try... I'm SO GLAD I DID! It turns out this book was written in 1910 (woulda helped me had I checked the copyright to begin with-explains the language anyway) OUT OF ALL THE LAW OF ATTRACTION AND SUCCESS BOOKS I'VE READ SO FAR, THIS BOOK IS THE BEST, AND THE ONLY ONE I CARRY EVERYWHERE AND REFER TO DAILY. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. Mind you this was written BEFORE the term "Law of Attraction" was thrown about with regularity. It's fabulous, and gives a concise and clear modus operandi to achieve your dream life, even if your present situation really sucks. Wallace Wattles reminds us that it is a Certain Way of thinking, and living, that produces with certainty the life we create. I will absolutely buy this for everyone I care about.

I think titles like this turn people off, which is a shame! Because there is nothing shallow about this book. It is so deep and rich in content, it would surely benefit anyone who reads it with an open mind. It's one of those books that I'll come back to a few times a year. A classic.

This book changed my life. If you do what the book suggests, you will get rich. I am proof that it works. My dreams became my reality...it all took form around me. I don’t even work anymore. Just do what it says and it will work.

While the information within is priceless, this version of the book was solely for the purpose of capitalizing on Wallace Wattles. This version does not have proper formatting and was sloppily put together. Do not waste money on this version. Margins and chapters are not uniform, no care or time was taken to put this book together. See pictures.

This probably the 8th time I've purchased this book in my life. It was originally a treasured gift to me and I now give it to others. I strongly feel it can be a Life Changer. It was for me.

I was very surprised when I received this book, or rather pamphlet. It is very short, but so many information on how to plant, preserve, and even dry herbs. I'm a very visual person, and all the drawings to explain how to plant your herbs etc makes more sense to me; this is very basic but just perfect for me.

ANOTHER GREAT REFERENCE BOOK TO HAVING HANGIN' 'ROUND. REALLY REALLY GOOD INFO FOR WINTER GROWING IN INSIDE WINDOW POTS FOR SALAD GREENS.

This pamphlet is ok for someone who has never planted anything, anywhere before. However, from the reviews I had read before, I expected much more detailed information. And I didn't get it.

It is difficult to write an objective review of Liam Clancy's biography. I am such a Liam Clancy fan that I only see the book through a fan's eyes. The biography was almost like Liam telling his story over drinks, a delight to hear Liam speak no matter what he says. Not well written, but fun to read. I learned a bit about Liam's early life and little about his later life. My main disappointment is that the book was not updated to tell of the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem,s later performing adventures as well as his later work. I only saw the Clancy Brothers a couple of times in their early days. Liam performed with Tommy Makem as a duo for several years and solo until his death. Liam and Tommy were a great duo until Liam's drinking got in the way. When Liam was sober he was a fantastic solo performer. I understand he finally quit drinking a few years before his death. All of the Clancy Brothers as well as Tommy Makem are gone. A bit of joy has left the the world with their passing. This book is bit of Liam Clancy remaining. I still listen often to Liam Clancy as well as Liam and Tommy Makem on CD. As Bob Dylan said "Liam Clancy is the greatest ballad singer I ever heard." I agree with Bob Dylan. Liam Clancy is also a good story teller.

This book has a whole lot of detail that would only be interesting to Liam's family members. I was hoping to learn more about how The Clancy Brothers came to be and less about the minutiae of his early life and a small handful of his relationships. So much was left out, by the end of the book I was singing, "Is that all there is?"

Liam followed an interesting path to success. In addition to being a great singer and performer, he's a wonderful writer. I had hoped he'd written about the next stages of his career but it doesn't seem he has. He's greatly missed by those of us who enjoyed his music.

This is one of the most engaging, beautiful memoirs I've read in twenty years. Liam Clancy, the youngest of the fabled Clancy Brothers, succeeded before his death in writing the story of his family and the internationally renowned singing group that lives on in countless recordings. At the same time, he depicts Ireland, that sacred country, as only a native can. As character and writer, Clancy is bold and brash, irreverent and tender, charming and unforgettable. If you love memoir, get this book as soon as you can and settle in for a delightful experience.

The Kindle eBook version is NOT what Liam published. No photos are included.. NONE. The words themselves are beautiful crafted and flow as a musical conversation. The story wrenches the heart with dialogue that puts you there in his life as it developed. Incredible story from a sweet raconteur. The photos added a drenching pathos to his presentation. This didn't even have Liam's cover photo as a young man with wonder and reach set in his eyes. Recommend you not download this kindle format. It made the entire purchase feel like a rip-off. There is no obvious mention that this is what they are presenting. Angry at such deviousness.

Liam says in the book that he always wanted to be a writer. Well now he is. It is nice to read about his life in Ireland and his experiences with The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem right from "the horses mouth" so to speak.

I have been a fan of Liam Clancy, both as a member of the group, The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, and later as a duo with Tommy Makem, and finaly as a solo performer. I have heard him in person many times, the last time a few months before he died. His voice is absolutely beautiful. The book is almost poetic. He owned up to his faults and his own awe at the fame that came to him.

Life experience, not so much reconstructed as double-distilled, is recaptured in the telling of Liam Clancy's thrilling and insightful memoir. Here's his hometown, Carrick-on-Suir, an almost mythically Irish hometown in the backwaters of the Emerald Isle. Where careeneth a procession of townsfolk both dotty and dour: Here's the town publican. There goes a creepy-looking cluster of nuns. Hark the churchbell, tolling out the Angelus, and oh, have a heartbreaking serving of tragedy along with your tea. Most important of all, observe the morally upright Mammy Clancy in action, pinning her hopes on her eleventh child: surely this shy impressionable son is a priest in the making. The author's eye fondly revisits family life in loving but not uncritical retrospect, the idealized Irish family, thrown headlong into life's tough struggles.An idyllic setting, interrupted one day by the arrival of one world-weary American heiress with a hidden agenda. She's determined to travel the world collecting folk music with the young Liam as her assistant. But can it be, she wants to snag him and possess him as her own--much as Dido, the evil queen of Homeric legend, attempted to do to Ulysses? And if so, could you blame her? This kid's a natural: a real Irish choirboy with an old-world brogue and a penchant for reciting poetry. He obviously needs seducing.Ah, Liam, me boy, you're in for a bumpy ride... or rather, a picaresque romp from the footlights of backstage Dublin to the hollers of Appalachia, on to Cambridge, Mass., and New York's zany, East Village arts "scene," where you'll meet everybody who's anybody. And, every once in a while, right back home to Carrick again, trailing clouds of cultural alienation. And great green gobs of maternal disapprobation.There are enough imbedded elements of Tom Jones that one could easily conclude this has just got to be fiction. So it's well the author pinches us awake, as social injustice, poverty, narrow-mind religious judgementalism, moral hypocrisy and intellectual vapidity present themselves. Not that any of that stops our hero.As he describes becoming a force to be reckoned with-first on the stage, and then in popular music-Liam Clancy is forthright about a few gaffs and stumbles. The hardest to swallow-given the idealization of family that serves as oxygen during his early life-is brief, bitter mention of a daughter, the product of an early relationship, whom he largely declined to be a father to. An included photograph of the author, posed beside this beautiful child, is simply disturbing.As the memoir ends, The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem are just about to reach the inexplicable pinnacle of fame as accidental musicians. A bit unsettled by the nutty East Village scene, our boys momentarily return to the village of their roots-where the local townfolk haven't changed a bit-they are, as ever, totally insane. Back they go to New York.The reader senses the chronicle ahead. . . Fame is fleeting, the singing group will eventually tire of life on the road, and, after all, to many amps can you crank a pennywhistle before someone's sinus linings hit a harmonic? One prays for Volume Two, wherein Liam, classical hero that we know him to be, crowns life's journey with maturity and self-knowledge, and expiates a life of fond transgressions by founding his own rollicking, loving Celtic dynasty. Of course, Volume 2 will need to be as thoughtful, resonant, funny and well-crafted as the present work, so that the reading of Liam's life remains in keeping with the living of it.
