Okay. Not as complete or easy to use as the Lonely Planet guide. Would not buy again.
DK format is to provide detailed info about "every city". Harder to get an overview for trip planning. I found more helpful info online (free!) and ended up NOT taking this book to NZ with me
We found the descriptions of historic and cultural background to many of the locales and sites we wanted to visit to be very useful. The descriptions in some cases helped us to prioritize just which attractions we would visit, especially where time was constrained. We found that all the information from the Guide that we used was reliable. The photos and displays provided good advance information that helped us set our expectations. Certain details such as entry charges, restaurant information and prices, precision of location, were best filled in from other travel guides that pay more attention to such details. All told,, it was a great asset for us to have the sorts of information provided by the DK Guide.
Like all the Eyewitness Guides, the New Zealand guide is great. Full of photos, illustrated maps, lots of recommendations of things to see and do. The only thing that isn't perfect is that the vast number of photos and maps makes it necessary to limit the amount of detailed information, but I got another guide that fills that purpose.
These are excellent books. I always buy DK Eyewitness, and this NZ version doesn't disappoint. The pictures are great. The history sections are interesting.
beautiful pages with full color pictures that describes everything we were interested in seeing; used it before and after our trip to select where we wanted to go and what we saw after we returned; however, it is a heavy book to carry on excursions
I own SEVERAL of the DK Eyewitness series travel guides. You can't beat the photos and graphics these books include.
This book had some good information, but I found more information about places to eat, local foods to try, and more detailed places to go on the internet than I did in this book.
